DESCRIPTION

DPS are a complete end to end solutions provider involved in the design, build and maintenance of water and wastewater assets & infrastructure in the municipal, industrial, food & beverage, dairy and pharmaceutical markets.

With increasing workload in the Contracts & Service divisions, we have an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Design Engineer to join our fast paced and innovative company.

We would also welcome applications from Lead/Senior Design Engineers.

The role of the Design Engineer is to manage the production of discipline specific engineering design deliverables for a range of multi-disciplinary projects predominantly within the water industry.

You will be involved in the project from initial scope development, through detailed design and supporting construction.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the main duties and responsibilities are as follows:

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide management support on projects across the business in the design and optioneering exercises to develop initial client concepts or requirements into workable solutions
  • Liaise with internal and external clients to identify their exact requirements
  • Attend site-based surveys to understand the needs of a given project, including meeting client representatives as well as gathering information and data to inform the optimum design solution
  • In conjunction with other disciplines on the project, manage detailed design tasks to client stage and approval specifications
  • Manage the production of design deliverables for specified projects alongside other team members and contribute technical guidance to projects as required
  • Produce detailed designs in accordance with sector norms and ISO standards using Autodesk Revit for 3D modelling and AutoCAD for 2D sketching and detailed construction drawings
  • Check/Approve design packages produced by other designers
  • Present designs at internal review meetings and external client review meetings such as HAZOPs and Technical Authority reviews
  • Develop, maintain and be responsible for Design Risk Assessments in accordance with statutory obligations and company policy
  • Support both team and personal Continuous Professional Development by demonstrating an awareness and understanding of advances or emergent technologies within your discipline
  • Undertake any other duties which may be required by management

REQUIREMENTS

  • Proficient 2D and 3D modelling (AutoCAD / Revit)
  • Minimum 3-5 years previous design experience ideally within a mechanical engineering or construction environment
  • Strong background in mechanical design with working knowledge of electrical and process control
  • Good understanding of the common treatment process and associated equipment in the water industry / wastewater sectors (desirable)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and other stakeholders
  • Ability to generate bill of materials
  • Can provide instructions regarding manufacture/construction of products or services
  • Possess a keen eye for detail and the ability to reflect this in the design flow
  • Travel to sites will periodically be required to measure up/complete as-builts
  • Degree/equivalent in an engineering discipline (desirable)
