Opening of Galway Water Treatment Plants

About

Minister Phil Hogan officially opened the Galway Remedial Action Projects on Friday 1st June 2012 at a ceremony held in the Lady Gregory Hotel Gort and also at the newly commissioned Kinvarra water treatment plant.

The project involved upgrading 28 public water schemes in Galway under 4 separate contracts.

EPS was the main contractor on all 4 contracts and worked closely with the various consulting engineers and Galway County Council in delivering top quality water treatment solutions to over 16,000 people throughout County Galway and local islands Inis Mor, Inish Oir and Inis Bofin.

The treatment plants involved ranged in size from 200m³/day to 6,000m³/day and the water treatment solutions included pressure filtration, dissolved air flotation, rapid gravity sand filtration, ozone followed by GAC filtration, uv sterilisation and chlorination.

As part of the upgrade works, EPS (through Dynamic Automation Ltd) has developed a county wide scada system using GPRS technology which allows the Galway County Council supervision team to monitor the operation and performance of all the plants on the scheme.
