Joint venture to deliver wastewater treatment works worth €12m

EPS / Sorensen Civil Engineering recently signed a contract valued at €12m for the construction of a new wastewater treatment facility at Carrigtwohill, Co. Cork. The Carrigtwohill project is being procured by Irish Water under a 20 year design/build/operate form of contract. The construction works are being delivered by a Joint venture partnership of EPS and Civil Contractor Sorensen. The new works will be constructed on the site containing the existing 7,500 PE WwTW.
The Carrigtwohill catchment has been identified as an area with high growth potential for domestic and industrial wastewater. This in combination with more stringent discharge standards necessitates the construction of the new works.
The design capacity for phase 1 of the new Carrigtwohill WwTW is 30,000 PE with provision for a future extension to 45,000 and 60,000 PE in phases 2 and 3. The works at Carrigtwohill will include design of a secondary treatment plant to cater for 60,000 PE, construction of a secondary treatment plant for 30,000 PE, including a number of remote pumping stations, storm tanks, preliminary works and a 1.1km estuarine outfall to cater for 60,000 PE.
